ZESCO United yesterday started the long journey to Choma, Southern Province boosted by the arrival of five international players who were part of the Zambia National Team squad that lost 3-1 to Iraq in an international friendly game played in that country.
Donashano Malama, Simon Silwimba, Chanda Mukuka, Shemmy Mayembe, Solomon Sakala, Kelvin Kampamba and Spencer Sautu were all part of the squad that was summoned last week by Chipolopolo Head Coach, Aijosa Asanović.
With almost half of the entire squad that faced Iraq trimmed, ZESCO United have travelled to Choma having returned Donashano Malama, Solomon Sakala, Mukuka Chanda and Simon Silwimba.
ZESCO United will be without club attacking midfielder, Spencer Sautu due to contractual obligations that bar him from playing against his parent club, Green Eagles.
The league defending champions will also be without Kelvin Kampamba and Shemmy Mayembe with the duo managing to secure a place in the Chipolopolo squad that left yesterday for Antalya, Turkey where they are expected to play Congo Brazzaville on Friday.
Club Team Manager, John Luchembe confirmed the arrival of the five players ahead of the match against Eagles.
“I can confirm that we have returned five of the seven players who were part of the National Team on international duties. We are currently(Yesterday) on our way to Lusaka where we are going to set up base before heading to Choma for Thursday’s game.”
ZESCO United will face Green Eagles on Thursday in the MTN Super League week 27 fixture scheduled for Choma’s Independence stadium.
