Two days ago, ZESCO United calmly and confidently dispatched Forest Rangers in a midweek MTN Super League week 29 fixture staged at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
A superb well taken close range lone goal from Enock Sakala was all ZESCO United needed to silence one of their town rivals in the Ndola derby.
Tomorrow, ZESCO United will be hoping to canter away with another massive 3 points when they face Buildcon in another Ndola derby.
The nine times MTN Super League defending champions, will be closely monitoring proceedings at Nkoloma stadium where league leaders, Red Arrows will be taking on a charged Zanaco side.
Red Arrows have been relentless in their pursuit of the title which has seen them open a 7-point gap at the top of the league table.
On Wednesday, they yet again proved hard to stop when they scored a stoppage time winner to runaway with a 2-3 victory against Nkwazi.
ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba has urged his side to remain focused and win all their remaining games.
“The most important thing for us is not to look at what Red Arrows is doing but to keep winning so that we can consolidate our position on the league table and run away from the team that is following us. The games that are coming are crucial and important to us.
“We have always emphasized to our players on the need to fight hard because every team wants to beat us. However, beating these teams will require us to be at our best. We still have a bit of hope from the five remaining games,” he said.
Wednesday’s results left the league champions on 2nd position with 52 points from 29 games while league leaders, Red Arrow have 59 points from 29 games.
Meanwhile the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has directed all its members to observe a minute of silence during weekend’s games in honour of the late FIFA/CAF medical committee member, Dr Joseph Kateule Kabungo who passed on last week in Nigeria and was yesterday put to rest.
