YOUNG PLAYERS SHINE AS ZESCO UNITED END MONGU PRE-SEASON CAMP

ZESCO United ended their intensive weeklong pre-season camp in Mongu, Western Province on a high after thrashing Zesco Shockers 1-4 in a pre-season friendly played at Mongu’s Independence stadium on Saturday.

The eight-times Super League champions returned to their home base(Ndola) yesterday afternoon.

This was the first time newly appointed ZESCO United head coach, Numba Mumamba unveiled his philosophy to the ZESCO United squad. It was further a crucial time for the players to bond and buy into the ethos of their new manage.

On Saturday, ZESCO United lined-up against Zesco Shockers in a pre-season friendly which the former won 4-1.

Coach Numba decided to rest most of the first team players opting to start with a more youthful looking ZESCO United side.

Samson Banda started between the sticks with Samson Mkandawire, Gilbert Tembo, Marcel Kalonda and David Odhiambo marshalling the backline.

Samson Sikaonga, Thomas Mubita led the charge in the middle of the park while Lazarus Phiri and Luwawa Kasoma kept pacing on both wings.

Enock Sakala and former Young Africans striker, David Molinga spearheaded the attack that proved too mouthful for Zesco Shockers defenders.

When the full-time whistle blew, the lads didn’t disappoint. Enock Sakala, Sangwani Mutale and Emmanuel Kabwe all from ZESCO United feeder teams registered their first goals as Mumamba looked on. Mwila Phiri added a fourth to put the game beyond the reach of Zesco Shockers.

ZESCO United opened their account through Enock Sakala after being put through by Thomas Mubita. However, the hosts quickly responded ensuring that the two sides went on break in a stalemate.

In the second half, Sangwani Mutale put ZESCO United ahead after being assisted by John Chishimba.

ZESCO United left back, Mwila Phiri made it 3-1 after scoring from a set piece on the edge of the penalty box before Emmanuel Kabwe made it 4-1.

ZESCO United will tomorrow(Tuesday) morning resume their pre-season preparations at Ndola’s Trade Fair Grounds ahead of the 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League season.
