ZESCO UNITED MEET TOWN RIVALS

FAZ/MTN Super League Champions, ZESCO United will this Saturday shift its focus towards sustaining their place at the summit of the FAZ/MTN log table when they face their town rivals Forest Rangers on Saturday in the Ndola derby, at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

ZESCO United are coming from recording a 1-all disappointing draw against five times African champions, Zamalek in a crucial CAF Champions league match played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium last weekend.

However, Coach George Lwandamina will be rallying his charges to maintain their winning run in the league, which saw them demolition Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy (KYSA) in a week 14 fixture.

The margins between the two clubs have been quiet minimal over the last few years. In 2018, ZESCO United lost at home 2-1 to Forest Rangers and won 3-2 away.

“Anybody who is part of this club should know what an encounter against Forest Rangers mean. They are our town rivals which makes this a more interesting affair. The bragging rights matter a lot to the supporters while to us it is crucial to maintain a winning run. Everyone in the team is looking forward to this game,” Jacob Banda, ZESCO United captain.

Forest Rangers will come into Saturday’s encounter having drawn 1-1 with Red Arrows in a match played at Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Sunday.

Sunday’s result pushed Rangers to 5th position on the log table with 26 points; having played 15 games, three more than the current Super league champions.

Rangers recent record against United will give them enough oomph to push for a victory when the two bitter rivals meet tomorrow.

Meanwhile, ZESCO United will be hoping to maintain their winning run in the league as they also prepare for a crucial CAF champions league do-or-die encounter against Zamalek scheduled for next week Friday.
