PREVIEW: ZESCO UNITED DATE ARROWS AS TITLE HOPES GAIN MOMENTUM

ZESCO United’s ambitions of defending the 2021/22 MTN Super League title have gained momentum following the team’s back-to-back victories against Lusaka Dynamos and Nkwazi respectively.

Victory against the Police Sponsored side meant that the league champions occupy 4th position on the league table with 24 points having played 14 games whilst league leaders, Green Buffaloes have 30 points having played 16 games.

Second placed Green Eagles have 27 points having played 16 games while 3rd placed Nkana have 25 points having played 16 games.

ZESCO United have a huge opportunity to go within reach of Green Buffaloes, by beating Red Arrows in the MTN week 1 rescheduled fixture to be staged at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Wednesday.

Numba Mumamba’s side will be energized to go for a win considering the reduced gap between them and the current league leaders.

Mumamba is expected to retain the services of in form Kenyan International goalkeeper Ian Otieno.

Last Sunday, Mumamba gifted South Sudanese National team captain Peter Maker Manyang his debut match in ZESCO United colours.

Manyang was supported by Solomon Sakala, John Chishimba, and Samson Mkandawire.

It remains to be seen if Mumamba will be tempted to start with a similar back four that ensured that ZESCO United claimed all three points against Nkwazi without conceding.

Dickson Chapa, Kelvin Kampamba, Mukuka Chanda, Spencer Sautu and Edward Lungu maybe given the nod to lead the charge from the midfield.

Jesse Were, Chitya Mususu and Winstone Kalengo will all be gunning forward with high hopes of unlocking the Airmen’s resilient defense.

ZESCO United will be hoping to make it three consecutive victories before travelling to Lusaka to face Zanaco in a match earmarked for Sunday.
