TC: OUR TARGET WAS TOP FOUR

ZESCO United assistant coach Tenant Chilumba has expressed happiness with the teams’ 1-0 victory over Nkana in Saturday’s MTN Super League week 33 fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

An in-form Kelvin Kampamba tormented his former side with some dazzling footwork which paid off in the 52’ minute when ‘Kemuka’ danced his way through the visitors defense before dispatching his shot which beat Kelvin Malunga.

The hosts finished the game with ten men after Chanda Mukuka was sent off for dissent in the 65’ minute.

United’s victory unfortunately was undermined by MUZA FC 2-1 win over Zanaco catapulting the Mazabuka based side into the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

However, Chilumba was not overly dissuaded by the club’s failure to secure a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“Firstly, I wish to congratulate our boys for beating Nkana. This was a highly tactical and tough game which required a lot of thinking especially when we went a man down. The primary focus was to finish the season on a good note and top four was one of our priorities,” he said.

And Chilumba has congratulated Power Dynamos for winning the 2022/23 MTN Super League title after 13 years of waiting.

“I wish to congratulate the league champions, Power Dynamos and MUZA FC for securing qualification into CAF. Our focus will now turn to the next game against Forest Rangers.”

It has been a rollercoaster season for United who labored to find their feet leading to the change in management with George Lwandamina taking Mumamba Numba’s place.

“Chicken” George has worked wonders in the last four months managing to move the team from 12th to 3rd position. However, even he could not stop MUZA’s spirited run.

United will finish the league with a mouthwatering fixture against their cross-town rivals Forest Rangers on May 27, 2023 at Dola Hill stadium.
