LEAGUE CURTAINS DRAWN AS UNITED SECURE THIRD PLACE FINISH

ZESCO United ended the 2022/23 MTN Super League season in third position after beating Forest Rangers 0-1 on Saturday at Dola Hill stadium, Ndola.

Collins Sikombe’s first half goal was all United needed to silence their rivals and fend off any attempts by Green Buffaloes to overrun the Ndola based league giants for the third slot.

Both United and Buffaloes finished on 55 points with the former enjoying a better goal difference over the later.

A win over their cross-town rivals was cause for celebrations. However, it did little to compensate for what has been a tough season for the nine times Zambian league champions.

Coach George Lwandamina’s mission to restore stability and pride at United following a dismal start to the 2022/23 campaign yielded positive results after spending less than six months into his new role.

However, even Lwandamina’s magical touch couldn’t curtail MUZA FC and Power Dynamos fairly tale journey which saw the Mzabuka based side finish second while the Kitwe giants secured a seventh league title.

Lwandamina and his technical bench will be in a hurry to ensure that United gets the best preparations before the start of the 2023/24 league campaign.

The veteran gaffer has only given his players 21 days rest before returning to what is expected to be an intense period of preparations for the new campaign.
